As a Barbie Girl in a warming world, can Barbie choose a better mode of transport to the real world?⁣ ⁣ In the recent Barbie film, Barbie is seen driving a stunning pink electric car (EV), which marks a positive shift from her previous use of fossil fuel cars. ⁣ ⁣ However, her boyfriend Ken's electric SUV highlights another critical issue we face in terms of transport emissions – the impact of big passenger cars.⁣ ⁣ Passenger cars contribute the most to transport emissions, and SUVs, being larger vehicles, require more resources during their manufacturing process.⁣ ⁣ In fact, in 2022, as the popularity of SUVs surged to nearly half of all cars sold, the additional carbon dioxide emissions nearly offset the emissions reduced by transitioning to electric vehicles, according to the International Energy Agency.⁣ ⁣ Barbie, along with all of us, deserves access to affordable & efficient public transport, safe bike and pedestrian lanes, as well as low emission zones!⁣
