The Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, located 100 miles off the coast of Texas, is home to some of the world's healthiest coral reefs. However, scientists warn that these reefs are fragile and vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Rising ocean temperatures can cause coral bleaching, where corals expel their colorful algae and turn white. Climate models predict that by 2040, all of the world's coral will suffer severe bleaching annually.
