Democracy and Dignity in Africa

Democracy shouldn't just be about elections or procedure—it needs to deliver real results for people’s lives. The most established liberal democracies in Africa tend to have the highest wealth inequality. But young people across the world have been calling for the need to go beyond liberal democracy towards “substantive democracy”—one where economic growth and democratic governance work together to provide the basic elements of a dignified life: jobs, health care, and education.
