Earth to warm up to 2.9C even with current climate pledges: UN

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has warned that countries' greenhouse gas-cutting pledges are putting the Earth on track for catastrophic warming of up to 2.9 degrees Celsius this century. The annual Emissions Gap report calls on G20 nations to increase emissions cuts, as the world continues to pump record levels of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. UNEP urges countries to make more ambitious and urgent efforts to reduce fossil fuel use and deforestation.
