Fossil Fuel Companies and Cement Manufacturers Are to Blame for a More Than a Third of West’s Wildfires

A new study from the Union of Concerned Scientists links emissions from the world’s largest carbon producers to nearly 20 million acres of forests burning in Western North America since 1986.

The climate-warming emissions from the world’s 88 largest fossil fuel companies and cement manufacturers are behind more than one third of the wildfires that have increasingly plagued Western North America in recent decades, according to new research.
