Hi, this is Hector from Madrid, Spain.
When I got back to the city I lived at the time, more and more I started to change the spotlight of my efforts from Climate Politics to Renewable energy at people’s hands. I came back with a mixture of excitement (and complete lack of knowledge) about how communities in my country could organise themselves up to face oil dinosaurs – so somewhat felt like starting back from square zero.
Ten years after, community energy is in almost everybody’s mouth in my country. However, we haven’t achieved the deepness nor the sense of working better collectively that we once foresaw. It has been a bittersweet journey. I also have been very active in terms of struggles against fracking, and surely I have taken part in COP which took place in Europe – such as Paris and Madrid.
