Job opening: Partnerships Lead

11 months ago 134

  • Salary: € 65-75K per annum (based on 40 hours per week contract), depending on experience and location.
  • Initially, a two-year assignment with the possibility of extension (depending on funding).
  • Full-time (ideally 40 hours per week but 36 hours per week is possible).
  • Based anywhere but ideally from Africa, Latin America or Asia with the ability to work on CET time.
  • You must have legal authorisation to work and live in the country from which you wish to work.

We are looking for a Partnership Lead on a mission to change the world. We need a future where our societies generate good lives for all on our finite planet, and where our economic system prioritises people and nature.

Earth4All is a partnership between The Club of Rome, the BI Norwegian Business School, the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. Composed of leading scientists, economists and communicators, it is built around five viable turnarounds that must be scaled up immediately (poverty, inequality, empowerment of women, food and energy) to stabilise Earth and support thriving societies. The conclusion is unequivocal: only systems-level change driven by all of today’s social movements working together will succeed.

This is where you come in – we need a Partnerships Lead to join our team to build a wider stakeholder movement, catalyse partnerships, alliances, and networks to promote economic system change, and supercharge the existing ecosystem.

Role Overview

Together with other team members, you will build strong bridges among climate and inequality movements, unions, science, media, influencers, and decision-makers, to catalyse joint strategies and collective action to influence governments. You will work to increase coherence, trust and collaboration in a fragmented space, specifically around key political and campaign moments.

You are a senior strategist and natural networker who can create trust, facilitate conversations, and build partnerships. You understand how to put into practice the principle of “Nothing about Us, Without Us”, and you can design collaborative, unbranded spaces for collective action.

You will be joining a lean campaign team with global ambitions, that is working to translate science and economic thinking into engagement and influencing strategies. You will have access to a broad network of thinkers, activists, groups, and decision-makers via Earth4All team members, but you are expected to bring your own contacts and networks via previous roles.

The strategic outcomes of Earth4All have been agreed on for 2023-2024, but room remains for you to adjust the outcomes based on your own experience and analysis of the potential of the Earth4All initiative.

This strand of work is an integral part of the Earth4All campaign, complemented by advocacy, public engagement, media, research and participation strategies. The Partnerships Lead will be matrix-managed by the Earth4All Campaign Leader, and line-managed by the co-president of The Club of Rome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and lead the implementation of a partnership and movement strategy as part of the Earth4All Theory of Change.
  • Strengthen current Earth4All partnerships and networks, as well as map and identify new relevant partners, and establish relations with a variety of stakeholders relevant to Earth4All messages.
  • Socialise Earth4All findings, narrative and system dynamic models with partner organisations.
  • Work closely with Earth4All team members to strengthen the ecosystem of actors championing economic system change – both globally and nationally in the Earth4All focus countries.
  • Design and convene at least 2 strategy and knowledge sharing meetings with partners per year.
  • Support the Participation and Campaign Advisor in building an alliance with youth movements, activists and organisations, and student associations/universities.
  • Lead on the development of global weeks and days of actions around specific influencing opportunities and build outcomes-oriented relationships with key stakeholders around multilateral processes.
  • Demonstrate measurable progress towards building a stakeholder movement around Earth4All messages.
  • Contribute to the development and the execution of one integrated campaign, by providing strategic advice and movement insights.
  • Refine and deliver the monitoring and evaluation requirements of the partnership and movement strategy.
  • Execute the key deliverables of our grant-funded work, and report on deliverables and impact to our funders.
  • Support the relationship with funders.

 Profile and experience

  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience in partnership building and advocacy.
  • Passion to transform our economies and build a world of well-being for all within planetary boundaries.
  • Proven capacity to work autonomously and remotely at a senior level, across many countries and cultures, and with a variety of stakeholders, from governments to grassroot activists.
  • Politically savvy, and capable of thinking strategically in both the short and mid-term, building strategic relations and influencing trajectories.
  • Understanding of how and when to build collective action for wider societal impact and being able to deploy a variety of tools and tactics to do so.
  • Expert facilitator, able to create trust, aware of cultural differences, and with an inclusive approach to movement building.
  • Able to work in a non-campaign environment, interact with scientists and economists, and present internally for a non-campaign audience.
  • Demonstrated track record in designing influencing strategies and achieving policy results, at both national and international levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus among different stakeholders, and facilitate initiatives from the bottom up, especially initiatives that are alliance and network-based.
  • Proven experience with project management tools, including working through Terms of Reference, work plans, timelines, and deliverables, and enjoying being part of a team.
  • Familiar with the actors and the political landscape related to economic system change, inequality, climate change, planetary boundaries and well-being economies.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office and remote working technology.
  • Familiar with the actors and the political landscape related to economic system change, inequality, climate change, planetary boundaries and well-being economies.
  • Fluent in English. Fluency in other languages is an asset.
  • Experience in matrix organisations/teams and working remotely across different geographies is a plus.
