Multilingual campaign reassures undocumented immigrants in San Diego to not fear reporting crime

A top faith-based organization that has worked to welcome newly-arrived migrant families is assisting in a multilingual campaign encouraging undocumented immigrants in the San Diego area to report when they’ve been victims of crime. Catholic Charities joins District Attorney Summer Stephan in seeking to reassure undocumented residents that their immigration status will not be asked of them—nor used against them if known—when reaching out for help.

“We want to ease the fears that people in these communities have and encourage them to contact local law enforcement and cooperate with the DA’s Office if they, a family member, or friend become the victim of a crime,” Stephan said. “We will not ask their immigration status, which is the law in California, and we have services that can help them.”
