Name change up for discussion: Community Partnership to consider NFLA request

3 weeks ago 30

The NFLAs are pleased to receive news that the members of the Theddlethorpe GDF Community Partnership will be discussing a change of name in response to our request to incorporate Mablethorpe into the title.

NFLA Chair Councillor Lawrence O’Neill wrote to the Chair of the partnership revisiting the suggestion first made by his predecessor in June 2022 suggesting the name incorporate Mablethorpe.

Nuclear Waste Services spokesperson Lucy conceded that the move away from an exclusive focus on the former Conoco gas terminal to a wider search for a surface site within the whole Search Area does indeed suggest that Theddlethorpe is not the most appropriate name for the Community Partnership’. The Search Area includes the Mablethorpe electoral ward as well as that of Withern and Theddlethorpe.

Lucy advises that the Community Partnership ‘will discuss a potential name change and the timing of this following the anticipated formal announcement on the Areas of Focus’ and ‘that the name is important to people who are most directly affected’.

The NFLAs look forward to hearing the results of the discussion, and hope that this will lead to a much overdue and clearly needed name change to reflect the fact that Mablethorpe is also now under consideration as a potential location of a future surface site.

Notes

The email response received from Lucy on 20 January 2025:

Dear Councillor O’Neill and Mr Outram,

Thank you for your letter of 8 January asking that the Theddlethorpe GDF Community Partnership consider a name change.

The news of the shift in focus away from the Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal site to other potential Areas of Focus for siting the surface facility in the Search Area does indeed suggest that Theddlethorpe is not the most appropriate name for the Community Partnership. This is something that the partnership touched on at its meeting last December, being mindful that the name is important to people who are most directly affected.

The partnership will discuss a potential name change and the timing of this following the anticipated formal announcement on the Areas of Focus.

Your interest is appreciated.

Kind regards
Lucy, Nuclear Waste Services
