No More Hiroshimas

CND campaigns for No More Hiroshimas – that no one else has to suffer the death and destruction that would occur should a nuclear weapon be used again. On the 80th anniversary of the bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we must all recommit to our campaign for a world without nuclear weapons.

As the Second World War was ending in 1945, the United States dropped a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima on August 6th, and another on Nagasaki on August 9th. An estimated 340,000 people died as a result of the two bombs, with hundreds of thousands more suffering from severe burns, cancers, and fertility problems. As the world steps ever closer to the nuclear brink, we call on those governments, including the UK government, who prioritise war and weapons over welfare and real security to learn the lessons of what happened at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. No more Hiroshimas!

How can I get involved today in CND’s No More Hiroshimas campaign?

Find out more about what happened when the US dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in CND’s online exhibition, which also explores the continued impact, both humanitarian and cultural.

I would like to learn more about the humanitarian impact.

CND recently hosted a Parliamentary event with a second generation Hibakusha (survivor) who spoke incredibly movingly on how the bomb affected the people of Hiroshima. You can watch back Kyoko Gibson’s talk

How can I show my support?

Dozens of events are planned across the country to mark the anniversary, take a look at our map. Or you can donate to our 80th anniversary Hiroshima and Nagasaki appeal or purchase one of our No More Hiroshima t-shirts
