Sydney deluge traps people in cars, while residents evacuated from Shoalhaven aged care home

New South Wales emergency services have carried out eight flood rescues, including the evacuation of a nursing home, after intense rainfall caused flash flooding overnight.

People were rescued after being trapped in their cars in the Sydney suburbs of Alexandria, Kogarah, Carlton, Banksia and Earlwood.
