Congress party accused Narendra Modi of ‘abject failure’ over two-month long crisis between majority Meitei and Kukis
Rahul Gandhi, the leader of India’s main opposition Congress party, has arrived in Manipur for a two-day visit to provide what he has described as a “healing” touch, as two months of ethnic violence spilled into neighbouring states.
Congress party has accused the government of prime minister, Narendra Modi, of abject failure over the crisis, which has claimed more than 100 lives and displaced thousands since clashes broke out in early May between members of the Kuki ethnic group, who mostly live in Manipur’s hills, and the Meitei people, the dominant community in the lowlands.
