A Journey of Empowerment: My Global Power Shift Experience in the Climate Change Field

In 2009, I embarked on a life-changing journey as a volunteer at 350.org. Little did I know that this experience would ignite a passion within me for climate change and my role in making a meaningful impact. Over the course of a decade, my involvement in the Global Power Shift program transformed my perspective, fueled my progress, and enabled me to support numerous youth organizations and startups in the climate change field. Here is the story of my remarkable journey.

As a volunteer at 350.org, I was introduced to the urgent challenges posed by climate change. The organization’s mission, dedication, and tireless efforts inspired me to take action. I became passionate about my role in effecting change and recognized the importance of collective action in tackling this global crisis.

By 2013, my contributions had expanded to the national level, but it was my participation in the Global Power Shift that truly propelled my work forward. This international platform exposed me to diverse movements and showcased the power of youth in driving change. I seized the opportunity to work on a regional level, particularly focusing on the Mediterranean region.

In the Mediterranean region, I dedicated myself to empowering climate activists. I supported them in building and sustaining their initiatives, recognizing that long-term viability was key to their success. Additionally, I saw the potential of green and climate-focused businesses and worked tirelessly to develop sustainable business models, with a particular emphasis on sales, marketing, and finance. By providing necessary resources, I helped these entrepreneurs gain exposure in the market and engage with stakeholders.

Alongside my work with youth organizations and startups, I actively participated in various development projects sponsored by donors. These projects aimed to enhance youth engagement in conferences of parties (COPs) and provide platforms for them to showcase their initiatives and develop robust business models. I leveraged my expertise to train, mentor, and consult with these ambitious young individuals, empowering them to become influential agents of change.

As I reflect on my journey, I am forever grateful to 350.org and the Global Power Shift team for providing me with the motivation and excitement needed to work relentlessly in the field of climate change. Looking ahead, I am thrilled about the plans in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to provide extensive resources for youth empowerment, as it is through these initiatives that we can inspire and empower the next generation of climate leaders. Furthermore, I am humbled to have been approached to train, mentor, and consult with youth organizations and startups in the region, as this allows me to share my knowledge and experiences and contribute to their success.

My story is a testament to the transformative power of global movements and the importance of empowering youth in the fight against climate change. Together, we can create a sustainable and thriving future for generations to come.
